Samba 4.0 is out!

Samba version 4.0 is now out!

Samba 4.0 brings a bunch of new, exciting enhancements and features; in fact, the Samba news release mentions that Samba 4.0 is "The First Free Software Active Directory Compatible Server" available on the market.

Samba 4.0 provides everything needed to provide a Microsoft Active Directory compatible domain controller for all versions of Microsoft Windows (including Windows 8); it includes features such as Group Policies, Roaming Profiles, and more.  Samba 4.0 can function as a Microsoft Active Directory (MS AD) member server as well.

Samba 4.0 includes the first Free Software implementation of SMB2.1 file serving protocol; it can also provide clustered SMB2/SMB/CIFS file services.

I'm very excited by this release, particularly as it pertains to many of the directory integration tools that work with Google Apps / Google Apps Directory Sync (GADS) and One Login Single Sign-On (SSO) service.
